Emergency Shelter Care

Emergency shelter care is a temporary placement, providing 24-hour care for a child who must be immediately removed from their own home or other placement and for whom no other appropriate placement is available. This program will provide short term care for children from birth to age 17.
CBKN maintains two shelter care facilities. Each home can accomodate up to six children. The first home cares for older boys and the second home cares for younger boys and girls of all ages. The shelter will meet the child's needs both emotionally and physically until a more permanent placement can be located.

The goals of emergency shelter care are as follows:

The following services will be available to all children in shelter care:

The child will be referred or provided with the following services, if deemed appropriate:

The children will participate in a structured day. The shelter will operate on a level system where children will be able to earn privileges (appropriate to age). Children will be given chores at the shelter.

Staff is trained extensively on issues such as the disciplining of children, management of aggressive behavior, First Aid, CPR and the reporting of child abuse and neglect.

The children will attend local public schools, medical, dental, and vision services will be provided by the Clay County Health Department.

The childs needs will be assessed and all services will be coordinated by CBKN counselors. All other services will be provided through referrals to provider agencies such as Clay Behavioral Health Center.
