Independent Living Services

Independent living services are provided to youth in foster care, ages 13 through 17, and young adults formerly in foster care ages 18 to 23 to assist in making the transition to self-sufficiency as adults.

Independent living services are defined as assessment and skills traning for adolescents in out-of-home care which shall include the following acitivities: vocational exploration opportunities, problem solving and decision making, independent living skills, and social skills. The skill plan is designed to meet the assessed needs of each child.

What Services are Provided by the Independent Living Program?

Assessment

Determine strengths and needs and develop a plan with youth to meet identified needs

Services for Youth in Foster Care, ages 13 through 17

Life skills training
Employment support
Educational assistance/Financial assistance
Conferences and field trips for educational purposes

Services provided for Young Adults, formerly in Foster Care, ages 18 to 23

Referrals to community resources for a wide variety of needs as well as cash assistance to prevent homelessness.

A broad array of short-term services including but not limited to: financial assistance housing, counseling, employment, educational, and other supportive services.
Financial assistance to participate in educational and vocational training to achieve independence.

Counseling and mental health services.

CBKN's goal is to provide independent living services to help young adults in foster care or formerly in foster care to successfully manage adult responsibilities.
